Rib pain
Our rib cage is a very complicated structure, made up of twelve pairs of ribs, multiple joints and with muscles between the ribs, with other muscles attaching onto the rib cage, joining the upper and lower parts of the body. Rib joints should be mobile enough to enable us to twist and breathe, and need to be nicely aligned for posture and good muscle activation.
How do we help you get back on the road to recovery?
Here at CSPC we treat your rib and thoracic pain by assessing the way you move and the mobility and alignment of your rib cage, back and pelvis. If the physiotherapist feels there is something that needs medical attention, they will advise you on this.
The physiotherapist will take a thorough case history and work out the best plan for you. Treatment can includeÂ
- Rib alignment and rib joint mobilisation
- Pelvis realignment and thoracic spine mobilisation
- Nerve mobilisation
- Soft tissue treatment, strengthening and stretching advice
- Home exercises
- Taping
- Onward referral for imaging or consultants if required (self-funded or via private medical insurance or a letter to your GP)
